SW96 Fortissimo

The Southern Wind shipyard has launched the sixth unit of the SW96 model for an experienced owner with extensive racing experience. Designed by Farr Yacht Design, the yacht features a carbon hull and deck, twin rudders, high-modulus carbon rigging, and a lifting keel with a draft between 3,4 and 5,5 meters. The owner's brief focused on maximizing the design's performance potential, while also introducing technical and aesthetic choices that reflect an ambitious, racing-oriented approach.

CEO Marco Alberti commented, “The launch of Fortissimo confirms the enduring success of the SW96 project. With each new yacht, we have continued to evolve the platform, also responding to the specific needs of owners. Fortissimo stands out for its strong focus on performance, combined with the comfort and refinement that characterize our approach to offshore cruising. Thanks to new technical choices and a contemporary design, Fortissimo embodies Southern Wind's philosophy of 'perfect balance'.”

The owner emphasized that “Fortissimo comes from a musical term. I'm not a musician, but it means 'play fast, play loud,' and that's exactly how I feel about this boat. Especially when it comes to racing, I believe power is key, and this yacht proves it. I can't wait to sail her! I can't wait to race her!”

Regarding offshore performance, the yacht incorporates a series of solutions to improve sailing efficiency. These include the new J4 forestay system with halyard block and hydraulic tensioner, while the deck layout includes a third set of winches in the aft cockpit to facilitate more complex maneuvers during racing. Yann Dabbadie, the shipyard's technical director, emphasizes that "The additional backstay winches signal an unmistakable racing intent, transforming this ocean-going cruiser into a powerful statement of offshore performance."

The deck and interior design are by Nauta Yacht Design, with a three-cabin layout, including a guest cabin aft of the saloon. The master cabin is designed as a private and functional space forward, complete with a dressing area, a sitting area, and a discreet vanity. The crew quarters are located aft, with two ensuite cabins, a galley, and a crew dining room. The yacht is equipped with an SCR catalytic converter system to reduce emissions, comply with IMO Tier III regulations, and navigate in environmentally regulated areas.
