Lürssen Delivers Boardwalk: Elegance and Cutting-Edge Engineering in New 117-Meter Yacht
Third launch of 2026 for the German shipyard that describes the 5.602-ton gigayacht as "a perfect synthesis between personal vision and engineering rigor"
Boardwalk, a majestic 117-meter gigayacht, has been delivered by Lürssen; this is the German shipyard's third launch of 2026. With a gross tonnage of 5.602 tons (GRT) and an overall beam of 18,55 meters, the vessel represents one of the German shipyard's most ambitious projects ever realized following traditional aesthetic canons.
Boardwalk's architects are a team comprised of Lürssen, the shipyard itself, which also designed the naval architecture, and Frank Woll, who developed the exterior design and oversaw the interiors, collaborating with the late Amy Halffman and designers Suzanne Glover and Teresa Francis. Along with them, the owner, according to a statement from the shipyard, was instrumental in transforming Boardwalk into a "perfect synthesis of personal vision and engineering rigor."
The superyacht has the elegant and timeless exterior lines of classic yachts, but hides a cutting-edge technological soul: the steel and aluminum structure was designed to meet superior naval standards, to become 'a real ship in the guise of a yacht'.
The design is inspired by the fluidity of marine life, with surfaces shaped to constantly interact with natural light. This concept, the press release explains, also extends to the nighttime lighting: with over 3.000 exterior lights, the yacht exceeds the standard lighting for vessels of this scale by a third, creating a unique scenic effect after dark.
One of the most significant technical innovations is found on Boardwalk's main aft deck, where a retractable bridge section is positioned above the stairwell leading to the beach club. This complex, hermetically sealed and certified structural solution allows, thanks to an automatic opening, the steps to be revealed only when necessary, thus maintaining the deck's aesthetic continuity.
To maximize interior livability, the designers undertook a true engineering challenge, widening the corridors to the edges of the structure. This required an extraordinary concentration of technical systems, piping, and wiring in insulated cavities minimized behind the mahogany, burl, and polished steel paneling.
The yacht accommodates guests in 11 spacious suites, including a VIP cabin located forward, featuring an onyx bathroom and a private terrace with panoramic sea views. All cabins have direct access to the side decks via floor-to-ceiling windows, ensuring a constant connection with the outdoors.
The onboard amenities elevate the luxury lifestyle concept with a full spa, professional gym, private cinema, swimming pool, and hot tub integrated into the Tesumo deck. Three custom 12-meter Hodgdon tenders, an amphibious vehicle, 4x4 off-road vehicles, and a wide range of land vehicles allow for every possibility of exploration both at sea and on land. Finally, there is a dedicated golf putting green and two helipads for quick travel.
Another striking feature is found in the center of the gigayacht: a glass-walled walkway runs through the engine room, allowing visitors to observe the excellence of German naval engineering as if they were in an exhibition gallery.
"Our task is to translate a vision into an operational reality," said Peter Lürssen. "This result was only possible thanks to constant and crystal-clear communication between all parties involved." With Boardwalk, Lürssen has not only delivered a yacht, but has demonstrated how tradition can be the perfect setting for the most extreme technological innovation.
