Joy by Bonomi, the mooring cleat that changes your mooring on board
The new automated system, designed to simplify port maneuvers and reduce crew fatigue, is distributed by Saim Marine

Amsterdam (Netherlands) – When it comes to mooring pleasure boats, tensioning and securing lines is often the most laborious and physically demanding task, especially on medium to large yachts. With the Joy motorized self-tailing cleat, Bonomi offers a solution that integrates the functions of a pulley, cleat, and winch into a single unit, making docking a smoother and safer operation.
The heart of Joy lies in the combination of two mechanical elements on the same support: a rotating pin on bearings (like a traditional pulley) and a motorized self-tailing component. For the owner, this means the line can be threaded through with minimal effort, then held taut, and finally locked with a simple fastening operation. The motorized system, activated by a pedal, allows the line to be pulled under load and kept taut, thus completing the mooring without the need for tuna fishing or traditional manual effort. The mirror-polished AISI 316L stainless steel construction ensures corrosion resistance and suitability for intensive use in a marine environment. The various models in the series cover a wide range of boat sizes: from boats approximately 30 feet long to yachts approximately 95 feet long, with mooring lines ranging from 15 to 35 mm in diameter. The nominal pulling capacity ranges from 80 to 400 kg, with 12 V or 24 V versions: the most powerful model is designed for larger yachts and features a 24 V motor, double pedal and control box as standard.
Operationally, Joy simplifies three fundamental aspects of mooring: line pulling, tension management under load, and final locking. In windy, current-heavy, or critical maneuvering conditions, being able to pull the line with a single command and keep it taut without manual effort improves onboard safety and reduces the risk of errors or improper use. Another key element is its compactness and space optimization. Joy can be installed in place of traditional mooring cleats, eliminating the need for separate winches for warping. This makes the deck more tidy and free of bulky equipment, especially important on yachts where space management significantly impacts habitability and aesthetics. From a technical and installation perspective, however, it is essential to carefully consider its positioning on the deck. Joy's support must be secured using a structural counterplate: the center and orientation of the cleat's axis must be designed based on the arrival direction of the mooring lines.
For owners with a short crew or on family-crewed pleasure yachts, the main advantage is the elimination of physical effort and the ease of single-man operation. In terms of safety, the risk of knocks, tears, or errors during the locking phase is reduced. Joy, distributed by Saim Marine, represents an evolution in docking management. Suitable for a wide range of vessels, it offers a blend of efficiency, comfort, and safety, enhancing the deck and simplifying an often problematic operation. For owners of sailing or motor yachts seeking reliable and effortless docking, it is one of the most attractive options on the market today.
