The first Master's program in nautical marketing and journalism is launched in the Marche region.
The University of Macerata's new master's program unites academia and industry to create future strategic figures in nautical communications.

The University of Macerata is launching a pioneering program: the Master's Degree in "Marketing, Communication, and Journalism in the Nautical Sector – MCGN." For the 2025/2026 academic year, the university is responding to the growing demand for specialized professionals in a sector that represents Made in Italy excellence, combining academic rigor with firsthand knowledge of the nautical industry.
The Master's Mcgn, explains a statement from the Marche & Yachting Association, was designed to train professionals capable of operating with strategic and technical expertise in the fields of nautical marketing, corporate communications, and specialized journalism. The goal is to provide the essential skills to effectively communicate with companies, media, institutions, and operators in a rapidly expanding market.
The master's program is a one-year program (April 2026–April 2027) and requires 60 University Credits for a total of 1.500 hours of work. Classes will be taught in a blended format, with a mix of in-person teaching (one intensive weekend every month and a half) and online lessons on the University's e-learning platform. Attendance is mandatory for at least 75% of the total hours.
The program includes 250 hours of internships or project work at construction sites, supply chain companies, industry media, or organizations, including international ones, facilitating immediate professional integration. Direct contact with industry professionals is guaranteed through meetings and testimonials throughout the academic year.
The Master's program is expected to begin once 25 students have enrolled, with a maximum of 40 participants.
The project was born from a close collaboration between academia and industry. The idea was promoted by Fabio Petrone, a nautical journalist, and Maurizio Minossi, president of the Marche Yachting and Cruising Association, and welcomed by the Rector of the University of Macerata, John Francis McCourt.
The development team, coordinated by Professor Elena Cedrola (director of the University's Department of Economics and Law), includes prominent figures from the nautical industry, such as Roberta Sabatini (Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard), Tünde Harkácsi (Videoworks), and Virginia De Carlo (Palumbo Superyacht), a testament to the course's practical and professional focus.
The launch of the Master Mcgn comes at a strategic moment for the Italian nautical industry. Italy, the Association recalls,, It is the world leader in superyacht production, holding over 50% of the global market in terms of units delivered. With a direct economic value exceeding €8,3 billion in 2023 and a 2,7-fold multiplier effect on the national economy, the sector requires qualified professionals to maintain competitiveness and promote the Made in Italy brand worldwide.
The curriculum integrates key modules such as: Strategic Marketing and Brand Communications, Nautical Industry Analysis and Maritime Legislation, Technology and Yacht Design, Media Mix and Digital Communication, Industry Events and Public Relations.
The expected career opportunities are broad and qualified, ranging from marketing and communications offices of shipyards and companies in the supply chain to trade publications, from press offices to tourism and port authorities, and even charter companies.
All the details for enrollment, scheduled for fall 2025, are available on the University of Macerata website (www.unimc.it) in the section dedicated to postgraduate courses.
