The 4th issue of Yacht Upstream, the B2B supplement of SUPER YACHT 24, is online for 2025.

The fourth issue of Yacht Upstream, SUPER YACHT 24's B2B magazine dedicated to the key players and trends in the Italian yachting industry, is now available online. This editorial project was created to offer an upstream perspective on the market, where the strategic, industrial, and cultural decisions that drive the sector's evolution take shape.

The new issue opens with a test of the new Swan 128, tested directly at the shipyard's base in Finland, during her launch. This is followed by an interview with her captain, Luca Serra, who highlights the captain's operational role in the yacht's design, outfitting, and commissioning phases, also describing the dynamics between owners and crew, which are not always easy. The People section continues with interviews with owner Lorenza Guerra Seràgnoli, entrepreneur Vannis Marchi, founder of the FIM Fabrica Italiana Motoscafi shipyard, and entrepreneur/shipowner Fabrizio Cameli, founder and CEO of Talenti.

There's also plenty of space for the Ports & Marinas Focus, with an overview of the latest developments in some of the Mediterranean's most significant ports and marinas, told through the voices of key players: Giorgio Casareto (Portosole Sanremo), Agostino Gallozzi (Marina d'Arechi), Simone Morelli (Cala dei Sardi), Federico Torno (Porto Carlo Riva), Giuseppe Pappalardo (Marina Genova), Oliver Dörschuck (D-Marin), and Matteo Solinas (Marina di Porto Rotondo).

The Service Provider Focus spotlights companies and professionals who support the world of superyachts on a daily basis, from project management to the owner-shipyard relationship to the world of services, with interviews with Pierucci Spedizioni, Nicolai Yacht Consulting, Moores Rowland Partners, San Giorgio Yachting, Howden Italia, Studio Legale Vaudo Paggini & C., and Agenzia Marittima De Felice. Finally, the Test section features sea trials of three yachts featured at recent boat shows: the Pershing GTX70, the Bluegame BGF45 foiling catamaran, and the Prestige M7 cruising catamaran.

The anchor of bureaucracy

The numbers are record-breaking: turnover of €8,6 billion, a 3,2% increase—which, in turn, follows the already significant 13,6% growth achieved in 2023 compared to the previous year—, exports up 78%, equivalent to €5,9 billion, and full-time employees numbered 31.480, also up from 30.690 in 2023. Meanwhile, turnover in the small boating industry declined, recording a 10% decline, as did that of accessories, down 1,7%, and engines, down 2,3%. The contribution to GDP rose to €7,4 billion. These are some of the figures emerging from the latest edition of the Nautica in Cifre report, produced by the Confindustria Nautica Research Department in partnership with the Edison Foundation, presented at the Genoa Boat Show. Regarding the decline in small boating, it's interesting to consider the final part of the statement by Piero Formenti, president of Confindustria Nautica: "The difficulties facing this segment stem from a combination of factors, including the interference in some markets of large stocks of pleasure craft, growing geopolitical tensions, declining consumer confidence, combined with a national regulatory regime that's still overly bureaucratic." Bureaucracy. An evil that grips our country, complicating and slowing down procedures that need to be streamlined to prevent our companies from losing competitiveness. And some of the contributors to this issue of Yacht Upstream return to the same theme. The final issue of 2025 stands out for its focus on Ports & Marine and Service Providers, two services that highlight the same problem. Simone Morelli of Marina Cala dei Sardi emphasizes the need to "streamline procedures, facilitate investments, and protect those who do serious business. Too often we encounter short-sighted bureaucracy, yet Italy's potential is enormous." When asked what the greatest obstacles are for the development of Italian ports, Matteo Solinas of Marina di Porto Rotondo bluntly replies, "Bureaucracy." Among other critical issues highlighted, especially by those involved in superyacht services, is the lack of uniform regulations along the Italian coast, with neighboring ports having different procedures, complicating the work of captains. These are also aspects that would be interesting to discuss. And as SUPER YACHT 24 prepares for its first sailing forum, the Super Yacht Sailing Forum on Tuesday, December 2nd in Genoa, this issue features, among others, interviews with shipowner Lorenza Guerra Seràgnoli (conducted in collaboration with Assoyacht, an association representing the interests of owners or charterers of pleasure craft) and with the captain of the Swan 128, Luca Serra, who share original insights and perspectives on the sailing industry.
