Fire off Formentera: The 30-meter Astondoa yacht Da Vinci sank (VIDEO)
Flames in the engine room destroyed the yacht. The seven crew members were rescued without injury.

Approximately 7,3 miles southwest of Punta Gavina, in the waters of Formentera, the m/y Da Vinci was engulfed in flames on the morning of August 11. The fire, which broke out in the engine room area, required the immediate intervention of Salvamento Marítimo, which dispatched the Guardamar Concepción Arenal vessel and the Salvamar Naos fast vessel, which also boarded firefighters. The seven crew members were safely evacuated and transported to shore, all in good condition. Despite containment efforts, the flames prevailed: the severely damaged yacht sank that afternoon. Cleanup and debris recovery operations continued in the area in the following hours.
