Harken introduces DynaDrive motorized winches
Dedicated to large cruising yachts, the new winches are distinguished by the position of the two-speed reducer in the upper part and the limited space taken up below deck.

Specializing in the design and manufacture of deck hardware for sailing yachts and superyachts, Harken introduces its new range of DynaDrive motorized winches. Designed for large cruising yachts, these winches are distinguished by their compact footprint belowdecks. This is achieved thanks to the two-speed gearbox moved to the top, a design choice that frees up more space inside the winch for the motors.
"Harken began producing high-performance deck winches at a time when manual winches were the only solution allowed by racing rules and represented the pinnacle of technology," said Michele Cazzaro, Technical Director of Harken Italy. "As demand for motorized winches increased, we logically adapted our highest-performance products to these applications and have continued to evolve ever since. The market appreciated the quality of our products."
DynaDrive winches offer an attractive solution for larger yachts that aren't intended solely for racing, but occasionally enjoy sporty cruising. The broad torque curve minimizes the need for gear changes. Simply put, less gear changes are required in traditional sailing, and the progression of speed is smoother. The result is a very comfortable performance profile that can ensure high recovery speeds when needed.
“Harken has been working on this project for five years,” said Mark Wiss, global director of Grand Prix and Custom Yacht Sales at Harken. “It’s been a long process of development and optimization that has excited us, and now it’s ready. I think what will impress sailors most is the smoothness and continuity of the power transfer. The torque curve is very linear, so fewer gear changes are needed, and when you do get to the point of having to shift gears, the smoothness with which they do so is impressive. It translates into a high-performance winch that’s easy to handle.”
