After the presentation of the Strategic Plan for Italian Tourist Ports, the president of Assonat-Confcommercio, Luciano Serra, announced the 'Proposed Law – Provisions on Innovative Tourist Ports' which aims to relaunch the tourist port sector in Italy.

The proposal—officially submitted to key Italian political figures, including the Minister of Tourism, the Minister of Civil Protection and Maritime Policies, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, as well as the President of the Parliamentary Intergroup on the Maritime Economy and the Chairs of the relevant Committees of the Italian Parliament—is part of a broad-based plan aimed at strengthening the Italian port system by promoting the modernization of infrastructure, the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies, and the simplification of bureaucratic procedures.

"Our proposed law represents the next step in the vision outlined in the Strategic Plan. It's time to translate ideas into concrete action. We want to build a tourist port system that is not only competitive and modern, but also capable of responding to global challenges, such as environmental and logistical ones. Our goal is to create ports that are at the heart of innovation and sustainability, combining economic development and respect for the environment," said Luciano Serra, president of Assonat-Confcommercio.

The Strategic Plan for Italian Tourist Ports has outlined a series of key objectives to revitalize the sector. Now, with the proposed law, Assonat-Confcommercio intends to implement these guidelines. The Strategic Plan includes, among its priorities, a regulatory update, the promotion of investments in modern infrastructure, a push for sustainability, and the expansion of opportunities for international tourism.

Sixteen articles cover various areas of the tourist port sector, including streamlining bureaucratic procedures, encouraging sustainable innovation, and infrastructure management. Specifically, it is specified that the application of the provisions of Articles 1 to 7 of this bill will not result in new or increased burdens on the state budget.

"This law must address the needs of a sector that is crucial not only for the maritime economy, but for the entire national economy. Italian tourist ports are one of our country's most important assets, a driving force that contributes to job creation and the growth of international tourism. Today more than ever, policymakers must support this sector with concrete actions and appropriate regulations," added Serra.

Furthermore, President Serra expressed his full availability, along with his highly qualified technical team, which has been working in the sector for decades, to provide all the regulatory and strategic details necessary to support the implementation of the proposed law.

The main objectives of the proposed law are: administrative simplification by accelerating authorization processes for tourist port projects, reducing the time and resources required to obtain permits and licenses; sustainability and innovation by encouraging the adoption of advanced, environmentally friendly technologies to reduce the environmental impact of port activities and promote the use of renewable energy; support for competitiveness by creating tax and financial systems to attract investment, with a particular focus on the construction of new port infrastructure and the expansion of available berths; and human resource training and development by investing in the training and preparation of staff to meet the challenges of the ever-evolving tourist port sector.

"The tourist port sector is one of the areas that contributes most to the Italian maritime economy, with a steady growth in maritime-related tourism activities. With this proposed law, Assonat-Confcommercio aims to provide a decisive boost to the growth of a sector that has the potential to become increasingly competitive internationally, through more modern, sustainable, and efficient management of port infrastructure," concludes the Assonat statement.
