Motorboating for 16 years: the new manual for the D1 boating license

The D1 boating license, a new qualification that allows anyone aged 16 and over to operate jet skis, small boats, and motorboats within 6 miles of the coast, officially came into force in 2025. To guide candidates on this journey, Edizioni Il Frangente now offers a dedicated manual, edited by Miriam Lettori, an author with over thirty years of experience in nautical education.

The volume, entitled "D1 Nautical License," systematically addresses the entire ministerial program for this new category. The text is divided into six illustrated chapters, with a progression designed to make even the most complex topics accessible, from correspondence to regulations, including safety and handling.

Particular attention is paid to a younger audience and those approaching navigation for the first time. The manual is integrated with digital tools that enhance its effectiveness: color-coded QR codes provide access to the audio version of the manual, an online quiz section by topic, and 37 video tutorials on the main exam topics.

The D1 license allows minors to command boats up to 10 meters in length, and adults up to 12 meters, always with engines up to 85 kW (115,6 hp) and for daytime navigation. This new license was designed to address the growing popularity of small cabin cruisers and high-performance inflatable boats, but also to regulate the use of jet skis, which are increasingly popular among young people.

An interesting proposal for nautical schools, private candidates, and anyone in the industry who needs to update themselves on this new qualification already in force.
