First confirmation on the Bayesian: the hull is intact
After being drained of water and held on the waterline for over an hour, it proved to be flawless. Expected today in Termini Imerese.

The Bayesian, the 56-metre sailing superyacht weighing over 500 tons, protagonist of a tragic shipwreck last August 19th in the Gulf of Porticello, by this evening it will finally be positioned aground in the port of Termini Imerese. As reported by La Repubblica, the yacht will remain in this area dedicated to its judicial custody until the conclusion of the investigations that must shed light on the loss of seven lives.
The operation will see the giant crane vessel Hebo Lift 10, which has been holding the sailing vessel aloft since last Saturday, rotate 90 degrees to lower the wreck onto a custom-built steel structure. This platform will allow the prosecutor's office's consultants to conduct the technical investigations essential to reconstructing the cause of the sinking.
Alongside the hull, which has lain on the seabed for over ten months at a depth of 49 meters, the 72-meter mast will also be recovered. Cut down last week to facilitate the surfacing operations, the mast will be retrieved by the second crane vessel, the Hebo Lift 2, and also transported to Termini Imerese.
The expert examinations, La Repubblica reports, will begin in approximately two weeks. This time is necessary for the hull's decontamination, aimed at eliminating any toxic gases that may have formed inside after the ship's resurfacing. Once safe, in-depth inspections will begin of the hull, engine room, and the lower deck, where the areas that should have been watertight are located. Starting next week, Acting Prosecutor Concetta Federico and Deputy Prosecutor Raffaele Cammarano will submit specific questions to the consultants for their expert assessment.
The investigations into the wreck will be supported by analysis of the hard drives in the engine room and control room. Much of this data has been recovered, and the careful analysis will confirm one of the main hypotheses regarding the cause of the sinking: the Bayesian's doors may have been closed shortly before the ship sank, when water had already entered. This theory is strongly supported by Mario Bellavista, lawyer for the family of chef Recaldo Thomas, one of the seven victims.
A crucial piece in the search for truth came from the hull's buoyancy and watertightness tests, conducted in Porticello on Saturday afternoon. Prosecutor's consultant Alessandro Biriaco requested that the integrity of the hull walls be verified through a "live" test with specific sensors. TMC Marine, responsible for the recovery, emptied the vessel of internal water with powerful pumps and left it afloat for over an hour to monitor for any leaks. The results of this test are clear: no leaks or holes were found in the hull, and the sides show no damage that could have caused water to enter, writes Biriaco. La Repubblica.
This initial confirmation of the hull's integrity is a crucial step in the investigation into the sinking of the maxi yacht, which claimed the lives of British IT magnate Mike Lynch, his daughter Hannah, the Bloomers and Morvillos, and the ship's cook, Recaldo Thomas. Authorities are continuing their investigation to unravel the mysteries of the tragedy.
