A €12 million Ferretti superyacht was seized in Civitavecchia.

The joint operation between the Fiamme Gialle Aeronavali and the Customs Agency was motivated by alleged tax evasion of 2,5 million euros and customs smuggling.

Sequestro Yacht Ferretti a Civitavecchia da Guardia di Finanza

A Ferretti superyacht, valued at around €12 million, was seized on June 4th at the historic port of Civitavecchia. The action, reports tusciaweb.eu, is the result of a joint operation by the Air and Naval Finance Police and the Customs Agency, which revealed an alleged illicit use of the vessel for personal purposes with significant customs and tax violations.

The investigation, conducted under the aegis of the Civitavecchia Public Prosecutor's Office, confirmed illegal conduct: the yacht, although formally registered in a non-EU country and flying the Marshall Islands flag, was in fact continuously used in EU waters for private pleasure boating. This practice, without the proper definitive importation, constitutes a clear violation of the regulations.

The crux of the operation concerns VAT evasion, estimated at approximately €2.500.000. The vessel had been purchased without VAT, having been presented by the buyers as intended for export. However, the owners enjoyed it permanently in Europe, thus violating tax and customs obligations. This behavior not only generated illicit savings for the buyers, but also directly damaged the European Union's coffers.

The seizure of the superyacht is part of a broader strategic plan by the Guardia di Finanza (Italian Finance Police) to combat tax evasion and smuggling in the luxury goods sector. Authorities emphasize how "complex corporate structures" are often used to evade controls. The precautionary measure against the yacht, considered the "product and profit of crime," reinforces the commitment to protecting the EU's economic resources.

Following the investigation, the vessel's captain was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office for alleged customs smuggling and other violations under Legislative Decree 141/2024.
