New MTU 12V2000 M96Z, more power for fast yachts
The Rolls-Royce Group's marine engine will be presented at the upcoming Cannes Yachting Festival. It is 11% more powerful than its predecessor, compatible with HVO fuels, and certified to IMO II and EPA Tier 3 for recreational use.
Rolls-Royce has unveiled the new MTU 12V2000 M96Z marine engine, an evolution of the Series 2000 engine designed for high-performance applications such as yachts, patrol boats, maritime police units, and sport fishing vessels. The engine will be available from 2026 and offers a maximum power output of 1.634 kW (2.222 mhp), an 11% increase over the 12V2000 M96X model, while maintaining virtually unchanged dimensions and weight. The M96Z is the most powerful engine in its range currently offered by Rolls-Royce and, like the other models in the range, is compatible with sustainable fuels such as HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil). Key technical developments include optimised components such as the turbocharger system, crankcase, cylinder heads, and pistons, as well as a new combustion tuning. The result is stronger acceleration and a higher top speed, while maintaining the reliability and ease of installation of the previous model. It continues to meet the regulatory requirements of IMO II and EPA Tier 3 regulations for recreational use. Certification to IMO II and EPA Tier 3 regulations for recreational use is also available.
