Fpyd creates Edge, the 50-meter concept sculpted by wind and water

The team of three young Italian yacht designers, Marco Belvedere, Giacomo Giorgetti, and Fabio Peduzzi (Fpyd), has unveiled Edge, a 50-meter superyacht project that promises to revolutionize the traditional concept of onboard living. Designed for charter, Edge stands out for its fluid, asymmetrical layout, inspired by the dynamism of wind and water, and a reorganization of spaces that offers a new perspective on the yachting experience. This seamless integration between interior and exterior spaces, hence the name Edge, literally means "seamless transition," a constant balance between interior living, the most comfortable and private spaces, and direct contact with the lounge and outdoor spaces.

With an estimated gross tonnage of 495 GT, my Edge is designed to comfortably accommodate 12 guests in six cabins (an owner's suite, a VIP suite, and four guest cabins), as well as a crew of 12. Each cabin, including the owner's, is located on the lower deck. This allows each guest to fully enjoy the vessel in a completely new and dynamic way, thanks in part to the redistribution of space, discussed in the following answers.

Its performance includes a cruising speed of 16 knots and a top speed of 18 knots, with the possibility of cruising in electric mode reaching 5 knots thanks to a hybrid propulsion system with Volvo Penta IPS 40 engines, ready for a future upgrade to methanol/electric.

The design team started with a simple yet powerful idea: if the hull is shaped by the water, why shouldn't the wind sculpt the superstructure? This concept led to the exploration of new ways of experiencing and experiencing a yacht. Wind thus becomes a central and generative force, influencing not only the formal language of the design but also the creation of evocative and fluid spaces. These environments offer multiple levels of sensory engagement, inspired by the natural processes of erosion and transformation.

Edge aims to redefine the onboard experience by reinterpreting the very concept of "bridge." Rather than the usual division into Main Deck, Upper Deck, and Sun Deck, the yacht is organized into distinct zones that recall a compass rose, strategically positioned at the center of the vessel. This gives rise to the North, East, South, and West decks, culminating in the Sky Deck, the highest and most multifunctional deck.

This innovative zonal division creates unprecedented spatial fluidity and dynamism. The deliberate asymmetry of the design gives the yacht a unique character, generating entirely new spaces. The result is not a conventional vertical division, but a transversal and rebalanced composition, where each area offers a different type of interaction, both with the surrounding environment and among guests on board.

"The Edge project," Fabio Peduzzi explained to SUPER YACHT 24, "was born from an intense exchange of ideas between three colleagues, three designers, with completely different backgrounds. The underlying principle and idea are very simple: using nature as a starting point to seek 'new alternatives' for experiencing the boat, no longer as a mere object but as a space lived between two fluids: water and air. If water gives life to the hull's forms, it will be the wind that sculpts the superstructures. Based on these principles, the yacht is completely reinterpreted; there will therefore be no simple vertical division, but rather a transversal and rebalanced one, since each part offers a completely different experience and interaction: both with nature and with people. For us, this project represented a great challenge, which highlighted the concrete value of interaction and multidisciplinarity. It is from the meeting of different skills that a result as original as it is fascinating was born."
