The General Council of Confindustria Nautica, meeting today, announced that it has designated Piero Formenti, owner of Zar Formenti, as the association's new president for the four-year period 2025–2029. The appointment, which marks a historic turning point with the first appointment of a representative of the small nautical industry, will be ratified by the Members' Assembly on May 16th in Rapallo, during SATEC, the historic spring convention that will be held this year in the Ligurian tourist resort.

Formenti's nomination is the result of a consultation coordinated by the Nomination Committee, which saw a high level of participation from member companies (79,04%) and votes cast (94,64%), in full compliance with the Confindustria Nautica bylaws and Confindustria regulations. His profile received widespread support at the various industry assemblies that comprise the Association.

Since 1979, Piero Formenti has led Zar Formenti, a company he founded and specialized in the production of high-quality pneumatic units. Within Confindustria Nautica, Formenti has served as a board member since 2008 and as vice president since 2019. His experience also extends to the European level, as he is currently vice chairman of EBI – European Boating Industry, the association representing the nautical industry in Brussels, and served as president for two consecutive terms (2015-2017 and 2017-2019).

"My extensive association experience has shaped me towards a unified vision of the Association, which I intend to place at the heart of our mandate, making myself available to all stakeholders in the supply chain," stated Piero Formenti. "My background in the small-scale nautical industry is a sign of the unity and maturity of the shipbuilding sector, which is called upon to address issues such as innovation, the green economy, revitalization of the domestic market, simplification, and engagement with new generations, at a time when the economic downturn is particularly penalizing small builders and the domestic market."

Formenti's program for the presidency is structured around several priorities, including: increasingly effective and engaging representation of the various sectors of the nautical industry; promoting entrepreneurial culture, championing the quality and excellence of Made in Italy; strengthening regulatory lobbying to protect the sector's interests at the national and international levels; promoting and strengthening the Genoa International Boat Show as a leading global event; promoting nautical and maritime culture, with a focus on training and career opportunities for young people; and supporting labor policies to support the various sectors of the industry.
