Northern Light Composites has secured another round of funding.
The funds raised by Samer and Cdp will be used to launch the production of rComposite in a new industrial site and to expand international collaborations in the nautical sectors

Northern Light Composites srl (nicomp), a startup specializing in the development of recyclable composites to solve the end-of-life problem of fiberglass, with applications ranging from nautical to wind energy, has announced the closing of a new investment round of over 600 thousand euros, which was led by the historic Trieste-based shipping services company Samer & Co Shipping and in which the cleantech accelerator Zero, part of the National Accelerator Network of CDP Venture Capital sgr, managed by Zest and co-financed by CDP Venture Capital and Zest, participated.
Founded in 2020 by Fabio Bignolini, Andrea Paduano, and Piernicola Paoletti, nicomp had previously been supported by Zero and had Samer & Co Shipping as an investor since its inception. The startup also secured €504 in funding from Invitalia in the summer of 2024 as part of the Smart&Start program.
nicomp develops advanced materials such as rComposite, a recyclable composite material that has already obtained the DNV statement for verification of recycled content and recyclability according to the ISO 14021:2021 standard.
"This capital increase represents a key milestone in our growth journey," explained Fabio Bignolini, CEO and co-founder of nlcomp. "Thanks to the support of high-profile investors such as Samer & Co Shipping, CDP Venture Capital, and Zest, we will be able to build our team, open our first production site, and accelerate the development of new sustainable projects."
The funds raised through this capital increase, together with the Smart&Start financing, will be used to launch rComposite production at a new industrial site, expand international collaborations in the nautical sectors, and accelerate research and development in new industrial sectors, starting with wind power.
Thanks to its innovative rComposite material, the company is redefining sustainability and performance standards, driving the shift towards more responsible and circular production. The company took its first steps in the nautical sector with ecoracer projects and through collaborations with leading European companies such as Cantiere del Pardo, Devoti Sailing, and MITA Cooling Technologies in the industrial plant sector. Specifically, it has launched prototype sailing boats, which have received awards for innovation across Europe, such as the European Yacht of the Year (Boot, Düsseldorf) and the Boat Builder Awards (Metstrade, Amsterdam).
Regarding the new investment in nicomp, Enrico Samer, President of Samer & Co. Shipping, stated: "We have been involved in the company since its inception. Our initial support for the startup has transformed into a significant investment, with the goal of directly engaging in a strategic industrial sector, while also leveraging a young team that has demonstrated commitment and progress over time. nicomp's commitment, in fact, reflects the values of Samer & Co. Shipping and represents significant added value for the Samer Group."
