Gallura is increasingly attractive as a destination for superyachts
Porto Pollo and Porto Rafael top the list of favorite destinations. Among the 4.629 yachts and superyachts in the northeastern marine area of Sardinia is Prince Karim Aga Khan's yacht, which spent 87 days there.

Gallura's appeal for international luxury nautical tourism is growing; the northeastern area of Sardinia continues to confirm its leading role as a Mediterranean destination.
Conducted by UniOlbia and Cipnes Gallura in collaboration with the Olbia Maritime Directorate, the analysis of the nautical tourism industry in Gallura, one of the first in Italy based on satellite data recorded by the Port Authority, shows the presence of 4.619 unique yachts and superyachts, over 24 meters, along the Gallura coast in the months of June, July, August, and September 2024.
The study also collects data on arrivals, vessel length, their economic value, and the nationality of their owners. Seven main coastal areas were monitored in the north of the island, including the La Maddalena Archipelago and Palau, including Porto Pollo and Porto Rafael, which topped the list of destinations with the highest number of these luxury vessels, with 2.475.
The Costa Smeralda, located south of Gallura, recorded 2.229 yachts. Porto Rotondo followed, with 1865 superyachts. Santa Teresa Gallura, Aglientu, and the Bocche di Bonificio had a total of 1649 yachts, while Tavolara Island and San Teodoro attracted 1206 yachts and superyachts. Cannigione, which is expected to grow in 2024 with 1000 yachts, followed by Olbia and Golfo Aranci, with 959 vessels.
The months of July and August, in line with the peak tourist season typical of the Mediterranean, see the highest number of visitors to the Gallura waters. Each superyacht over 30 meters generates significant costs, including maintenance, port services, supplies, and onboard crew.
The economic part of the Cipnes and UniOlbia study, edited by Guido Piga, is the result of an analysis of data processed by The House Ambrosetti for Genova For Yachting, and shows that the overall daily impact of the fleet identified in Gallura is €4,2 million. "These are significant numbers that demonstrate the great value of this sector and its numerous benefits for the region," Piga emphasized. "While the owners of these ultra-luxury vessels remain anonymous for privacy reasons, we are only able to disclose one: the Shergar, Prince Karim Aga Khan's yacht, which spent the longest time this year, 87 days, in Gallura waters. We want to see this as a wish and a good omen, as well as a further tribute from the prince to this region."
Currently, 1885 companies operate in the sector in Sardinia, with a total turnover of €403 million, making it the fifth largest industry in Sardinia. In Gallura alone, the Cipnes manufacturing district hosts 90 companies specializing in services, logistics, and shipbuilding, employing a total of 2.250 people.
