The Pardo GT75 sea trial: advanced engineering at the owner's service

SUPER YACHT 24 tested the new flagship of the Forlì shipyard which once again managed to combine its design, which has become a trademark, with a design made for sailing well and for a long time, even with a reduced crew.

At almost 23 meters long, the Pardo GT75 is a concentration of engineering that, in addition to embodying its now famous design, starting with the inverted bow and negative windshield, has managed to create a stable and easy-to-handle hull.

The lines are low and sleek, giving guests a sense of constant proximity to the sea, thanks in part to wide and well-protected sidedecks that can be used even while sailing. Inside, the layout includes two, three, or four cabins, with the galley located on the lower or upper deck, protected by a semi-opening roof featuring Besenzoni fins that let in light and fresh air. A T-top version is also available, creating a more open environment.

Of the more than ten units already sold, there's no one model that stands out: owners are fairly evenly divided among the layout options offered by the shipyard, which aims to offer a custom product that's not overly so, offering a wide range of options while still limiting construction processes to ensure the highest quality. Gigi Servidati, president of Cantiere del Pardo, describes the newcomer as "a true luxury villa on the sea, designed to offer a unique and sophisticated experience. The Pardo GT75 embodies the vision we wanted to achieve, thanks to our construction expertise, combined with exceptional design and cutting-edge technology."

Based on a concept by Cantiere del Pardo, with naval architecture by Zuccheri Yacht Design and exterior and interior design by Nauta Design, the Pardo GT75 is powered by three Volvo Penta D13 IPS 1050 engines, each producing 800 hp. An optional version with a trio of Volvo Penta D13 IPS 1350 engines, each producing 1.000 hp, is also available, like the boat we tested. The hull is optimized to work in symbiosis with the Volvo Penta IPS propulsion system; furthermore, the engine room is already prepared to accommodate the hybrid engine and reduce environmental impact. A 4.100-liter fuel tank and 1.100-liter water tank also ensure ideal range for long-range cruising.

For its flagship, Pardo Yachts has taken the "easy to handle" concept to the extreme, ensuring a helming experience, both on the open sea and in port, that's optimized even without a crew. Ease of maneuvering is ensured by the raised central helm station, which offers excellent visibility, the IPS technology that allows the hull to "dance" on the water when controlled by a joystick, the waterlines, and the second joystick located in the cockpit on the starboard side, allowing the captain to stand outside aft during docking maneuvers. When it's time to haul in the lines, we have three Harken CLR 1200 winches (two aft and one bow) to bring us close to the dock. We also find the bow thruster and the X56 gyroscopic stabilizer by Quick, to ensure extreme stability to an already stable hull, thanks to the fact that all the tanks, from fuel to black water, are placed amidships and run along the keel.

"Everything, from the systems to the bulkheads," explains Marco Gugnoni, Pardo GT75 boat designer, "was designed to achieve optimal center-of-gravity balance. A huge help comes from the keel tanks, at the lowest point of the boat, which generate optimal righting and stability. This ensures that underway, whether the tanks are full or empty, the boat always maintains good trim, enhancing performance. The V of the hull is much more pronounced at the bow to resist seawater, but it is flatter at the stern for faster sailing."

These feelings were confirmed during our sea trial in Monte Carlo. We set off with a fairly heavy trim due to the full tanks (100% fuel and 82% water) and the 14 people on board, in short, half-meter waves that never put the Pardo GT75's hull under strain. At the helm, you get a sense of safety and complete control of the boat, which left the dock with remarkable ease, thanks to the Volvo Penta joystick. Three 22" Garmin displays show all the information you need, from maps to engine speeds to external cameras.

The dashboard surface was coated with a zero-gloss paint used in military aviation that prevents any reflection from the sun or onboard lighting that could bother the helmsman. We didn't reach the top speed of 37 knots achieved during a summer cruise due to the weight and the hull being in the water all season, but we cruised at 34 knots, burning 570 l/h, without any inaccuracies, appreciating the quietness in the cockpit, even with the transom door open. At 20 knots, the fuel consumption is 220 l/h, or 11 l/nm, while the optimal cruising speed is around 24 knots, with 13 l/nm (under optimal load and hull conditions).

The beach area opens with two fold-down bulwarks, which can be used for diving into the open sea, and then ascends from the Opacmare platform, useful both for disembarking at the dock and for hauling and launching a 3,7-meter tender, which can be stowed under the aft sundeck.
