Seven Stars – Marina & Shipyard presents Micfil ultra-fine filters

Also designed for recreational boating, this oil and fuel filter system can remove contaminants as small as 0,5 microns. The benefits extend not only to performance but also to engine reliability and your wallet, thanks to reduced fuel consumption and less frequent oil changes.

On the occasion of the recently concluded Monaco Yacht Show, the German company Micfil presented its new oil and fuel filter system for the pleasure boating world. The manufacturer, along with Alexander Proch, was present at the Tuscan shipyard's stand. Seven Stars – Marina & Shipyard, which also becomes the installer and distributor for Italy. The heart of the product is a filter system capable of retaining contaminants up to 0,5 microns in size. This capability benefits not only performance but also economic, environmental, and the longevity of engines and hydraulic systems.

According to Micfil's calculations, the filter system, applicable to various engine room systems, allows for savings of 80-90 percent on oil changes and 3-5 percent on fuel consumption. Furthermore, the filters can eliminate up to 98 percent of bacterial growth in fuel in a single pass, and carbon particles in exhaust emissions are reduced by 30-40 percent. The system is suitable for various types of oils, including engine, hydraulic, gear, and compressor oils.

The filter housing is made of seawater-resistant aluminum (RINA certified) or V4A stainless steel (Bureau Veritas certified). The housings are modular and available for filter inserts of 90 mm, 150 mm, 300 mm, 600 mm, 900 mm, and up to 1200 mm. The filter is made of a special tear-resistant fiber mesh with woven cellulose fibers that achieves filtration performance of up to 0,5 μm even at high flow rates and removes bacteria (diesel and diesel fuel). The Micfil system works on all equipment that uses oils and fuels.

Regarding the system and the distribution agreement, SUPER YACHT 24 met with Davide Mugnaini, sole director of Seven Stars – Marina & Shipyard.

Mugnaini, why are you focusing so much on this product?

There's currently a lot of focus on pollution and oil and fuel savings in the recreational boating sector. We know that annual yacht construction is significant, and the Italian market has seen strong growth. But if we look at used boats, there are many more than new ones, and so our shipyard, whose business is refitting, must also consider making them as environmentally friendly as possible while also reducing operating costs. The agreement between Seven Stars – Marina & Shipyard and MicFil is a step in this direction.

What are the strengths of the system?
"For a pleasure yacht, there are several advantages, starting with a significant reduction in the cost of engine oil changes, as the oil is constantly filtered and cleaned. In the absence of other engine problems, oil changes are delayed, keeping the quality under control through periodic analysis. In the fuel, all impurities are removed, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and emissions."

Have you already tested the system?

“Yes, of course, and it's all true. We've been working on this agreement for a year, testing the filters aboard our company's fleet of tugboats. Service MarineYou know the classic image of black smoke coming out of engines and generators? It's a problem that will never exist again. Our vehicles, which have now dated engines, have stopped producing black smoke. That's why we believe so much in this product."

First he talked about cost reduction.

"Given the product's quality and efficiency, the costs are truly low compared to the numerous benefits it offers. You'll start saving money from the very first season by avoiding oil changes and reducing fuel consumption by 5 to 8 percent. What's more, anyone installing these filters will be entitled to a green sticker that can be attached to the boat's owner's manual, certifying the reduction in harmful emissions and fuel and oil consumption."

What are the next steps in your business plan?

"We have about 1.300 meters of yachts in the pipeline for the season. I say meters because the number of boats matters little. We expect to reach at least 50 percent of these filters installed, but we'll try to go beyond that."

Do you plan to sell the system to third parties and other shipyards?

“Without a doubt and very willingly.”
