Swan 88, the shipyard's first diesel-electric yacht in collaboration with Torqeedo
Designed by Germán Frers, Misa Poggi and Lucio Micheletti, the Swan 88 DreamCatcher is powered by a 120 kW Torqeedo Deep Blue engine and two 45 kW generators that extend the range to over 2.000 miles.

With an overall length of 28,27 meters and a load line length of 23,99 meters, the Swan 88 offers the dimensions and features of a true superyacht without having to comply with more complex and onerous codes (such as the Red Ensign Group, for example) that apply to models over 24 meters. The project saw the collaboration of Germán Frers, Misa Poggi, and Lucio Micheletti, and the first of the two 88s launched, DreamCatcher, is powered by a diesel-electric system, a major innovation and a first for the shipyard.
DreamCatcher is in fact powered by a 120 kW Torqeed Deep Blue engine developed specifically for this model and battery160 kWh engines. All onboard systems are powered and managed by the Deep Blue central system with controls integrated into the onboard displays. The engine is coupled to a variable-pitch propeller that allows performance to be adapted to sailing conditions and onboard needs. The batteries can be recharged both during navigation, thanks to hydrogen generation (a 8 knots of sailing speed the system produces enough energy to be self-sufficient), cThe vessel can be recharged at dock via the integrated 22 kW charger. Furthermore, two 45 kW generators provide backup power during long voyages, increasing the range to over 2 miles and recharging the batteries in less than 1,5 hours with minimal noise.

The Deep Blue system is not a simple engine: it manages, balances and supplies energy to all the systems on board the yacht thanks to to the four 40 kWh battery packs that minimize the need for generator use. The battery pack maintains the hydraulic systems, including the bow and stern thrusters, the windlass, and the winches for sailing, under pressure.

“The Swan 88 is the culmination of three years of collaboration between Nautor Swan and Torqeedo’s Customized Solutions team. It demonstrates that Deep Blue can achieve range and performance similar to a combustion-engined yacht, and even be completely independent in good sailing conditions,” said Matthias Vogel, senior vice president of Torqeedo’s Customized Solutions business unit. “The multi-sensory experience of silent driving, sailing, and living on board is unparalleled, and the Swan 88’s ability to operate 100% emission-free ensures future access to nature reserves and other pristine, regulated waters where combustion-engined vessels may not be permitted.”
