Bayesian Perini 56 metri

This morning around 5.00 am, following a violent storm, a 56-metre sailing vessel named Bayesian, flying the UK flag, sank off the coast of Porticello (Palermo).

"The first shipwrecked people," the Palermo Coast Guard announced, "were first rescued by a nearby vessel and then brought ashore by four Coast Guard vessels, which promptly responded to the scene of the shipwreck from Porticello, Termini Imerese, and Palermo.

According to initial information received from the yacht's crew, there were 22 people on board (10 crew members and 12 passengers).

Currently, 15 people have been rescued and seven are missing (one crew member and six passengers), all of whom are British, American, and Canadian nationals. Of those rescued, eight were subsequently transported to local hospitals.

The search is underway in the area with four Coast Guard vessels, one Nemo Coast Guard helicopter departing from Catania, and a team of Fire Brigade divers, all coordinated by the Palermo Coast Guard.

The vessel appears to have sunk in a seabed approximately 50 meters deep. An investigation has been launched, coordinated by the Termini Imerese Judicial Authority, to determine the exact circumstances of the shipwreck, led by the Porticello Coast Guard.

The search continues incessantly with naval, air and underwater resources, including the Messina Coast Guard Diving Unit" – concludes the Coast Guard statement.

According to an update reported by theHandleUnfortunately, the death of one of the missing has already been confirmed. The man's body was located next to the vessel and recovered.

Furthermore from theHandle It is understood that the ship was still anchored in front of the port when the tornado struck. With the anchor still down, the storm apparently snapped the mast, causing the vessel to lose its balance, which led to the wreck. A vessel anchored alongside the Bayesian apparently rescued the vessel.
