Ferretti Group contributes to the Adriatic's first master's degree in Nautical Engineering
This is the first step toward establishing a center of excellence in Forlì. The course will enable graduates to design and produce pleasure boats.

Through an initiative that brought together Ferretti, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the University of Bologna, the Cassa dei Risparmi Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Municipality of Forlì, a virtuous public-private network has been established in Forlì, which will create, starting in the 2024-25 academic year, the new Master's Degree in Nautical Engineering.
The course, explains a statement from the shipbuilding group, is highly anticipated because the regions of Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Abruzzo, and Puglia are experiencing significant growth, both industrially and in terms of employment, in the nautical sector. This creates a constant need for professionals with high-level technical and specialized skills.
Ferretti Group, with five production sites on the Adriatic, is among the leading proponents of this educational and research initiative. It serves as an act of commitment and giving back to the community, further promoting the expertise that local communities can offer in the nautical field. To achieve its goals, it has chosen to partner with a scientific and educational excellence like the University of Bologna: an excellence both internationally recognized and deeply rooted in its local communities.
The degree program is the first step toward establishing a center of excellence in Forlì, capable of attracting researchers from abroad and providing support for the creation and incubation of highly innovative technological startups in the nautical sector, thus increasing the attractiveness of the regions and the development of the Blue Economy.
The Department of Industrial Engineering, in addition to teaching by internationally recognized figures, will focus on increasingly advanced research, including hydrodynamics and methodologies for reducing hydrodynamic and aerodynamic friction. These research activities are conducted at the international CICLoPE facility in Predappio, the statement continues.
"This new degree program will generate energy and qualified skills that we welcome with enthusiasm. Here in Emilia-Romagna and on the Adriatic coast, major shipyards operate that contribute significantly to the world leadership of Italian yachting in pleasure boats up to 60 meters," stated Alberto Galassi, CEO of Ferretti Group. "Transmitting knowledge and sharing experiences through a university-level program has the dual purpose of creating jobs and introducing highly trained professionals into our sector, suited to the challenges of the nautical industry of the future."
Professor Giovanni Molari, Rector of the Alma Mater, stated: "The program will train master's degree holders capable of working in the design and production of recreational boats and their components, throughout all phases of product development. The location of the new program at the Forlì campus will ensure access to the numerous laboratories and the potential offered by the aerospace and mechanical engineering training program. We hope it will enable the creation of important synergies in various areas of nautical interest, such as fluid dynamics (thanks also to the presence of a key international research facility, CICLoPE, on the Forlì campus), propulsion, and composite materials. With this innovative educational project, the Alma Mater confirms its commitment to providing education that is increasingly responsive to the needs of local communities and society."
