Cetena will study how to create more moorings for mega yachts in Portofino
The municipality of the Ligurian tourist resort has allocated 56.000 euros to carry out the feasibility study

The Municipality of Portofino has entrusted Cetena with the task of carrying out a feasibility study to allow large yachts to dock in its port.
The Municipality has allocated €56.000 for this project. Cetena, a well-known naval engineering firm belonging to the Fincantieri group, will be required to "prepare a study of the moorings in the port of Portofino for the berthing of vessels longer than 60 meters," as requested by the municipal resolution reported today by Il Secolo XIX, which also recalls the shape of the natural port of Portofino, made up of the inlet of its bay inside the promontory of the same name which extends to the central square of the tourist resort.
Currently, the only spaces designated for transit within the Ligurian marina are the two sections granted to Portofino Servizi Turistici. Currently, only six or seven berths are available for superyachts under 60 meters. The remaining area is dedicated to eight berths for yachts no longer than 18 meters. For yachts over 60 meters, only two berths with lines ashore are available in the famous Cannone Bay.
Cetena will therefore have to study whether and how to allow vessels over 60 meters into the port. Among the factors that will influence the feasibility of the study is the issue of the seabed of the tourist port (Marina Portofino, a company managed by the municipality), given the depths that vary depending on the area, from 50 cm to 16 meters, and the muddy composition of the seabed.
Portofino, which aims to remain a tourist destination accessible to all without risking overcrowding, has seen megayachts approach the bay just last summer, including director Steven Spielberg's 86-meter "Seven Seas," Dolce & Gabbana's 65-meter "Regina d'Italia," and Jeff Bezos's 75-meter Abeona.
