Salerno Boat Show 2023 – Gallozzi

During the 7th edition of the Salerno Boat Show, which runs until November 12th at the Marina d'Arechi in Salerno, the Focus was presented with data on the Campania Maritime Economy, based on the National Report of Unioncamere and edited by Informare, Assonautica Italiana, OsserMare and Blue Forum Italia Network.

On this occasion, Marina d'Arechi President Agostino Gallozzi reiterated the central role of marinas in areas offering significant cultural, scenic, and architectural attractions. "Marina d'Arechi," he said, "confirms its position as a gateway to increasing the number of visitors, including from abroad. This broadens the audience that allows for the constant growth in the number of visits to our province."

Regarding the importance of Campania's maritime economy, Antonello Testa, coordinator of OsserMare – the National Information Observatory, said: "The significant investments of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) in Campania's ports – €600 million for the ports of Naples and Salerno – represent a major, unprecedented development opportunity. This year's report highlights exponential growth in the blue economy, generating €142,7 billion in added value. In terms of employment, we're talking about 914 jobs. The numbers confirm the sector's importance within the Italian and European landscape; just consider the significant multiplier power of the blue economy: the report shows that the maritime economy produces €52,4 billion in added value and generates another €90,3 billion in the rest of the economy in 2021. Considering this multiplier capacity to 'create a supply chain,' the blue economy will generate the aforementioned €142,7 billion overall, or 8,9% of the total." of the entire national economy".

Then, focusing on Campania, Testa added: "The South (30%) and Central Italy (31,1%) contribute 61,1% of the added value of the entire maritime economy. In Campania, the territorial extension of the blue economy includes: 131 municipalities defined as coastal areas; 60 of which are coastal and 71 near the sea; 55,5% of the population; 59,0% of the total added value; and 1089 inhabitants per square kilometer, compared to 230 in other Italian municipalities. Furthermore, 48,4% of maritime economy businesses are located in Southern Italy (11.492). Southern Italy is also the area with the best performance, recording a 2,7% increase in blue economy businesses between 2021 and 2022, significantly above the national average (+1,6%)."

According to the report, the Campania seafood industry's total value added is €12,9 billion, a higher percentage performance than the national average, with 94.023 employees and 32.449 businesses. Looking at the top ten provincial rankings by absolute number of Italian seafood businesses, Naples is second with 22.909 businesses and Salerno is fourth with 7.892 businesses.
