Dredging work has begun on the canal between Pisa and Livorno.
They would have been the responsibility of the Livorno Port Authority but the costs were borne by the Pisa Port Authority

Work began on Thursday, March 16, by the Pisa Port Authority to clear debris and silt from the river access to the port of Livorno. This work was requested in mid-February by the Port Authority's president, Salvatore Pisano, who recently complained of damage to a vessel's hull and, more importantly, the inability of other yachts to enter Pisa's production area: all due to rising sea levels.
This is the access section to the Livorno port, the stretch between the four drawbridges and the Porte Vinciane, "where dunes had formed," according to a statement, "which meant the seabed was no deeper than two meters. And it was precisely there, about a month ago, that the Italian Navy sailing vessel 'Stella Polare,' fresh from work at the Seven Stars shipyard in the Pisa dock, had serious difficulties navigating, hitting its keel."
The section is under the jurisdiction of the Port of Livorno, but thanks to the direct involvement of President Pisano, the work is being carried out by the Port Authority. The work, which cost ten thousand euros and was funded by Port Authority di Pisa srl, will be completed within two days.
"We urgently need," commented President Salvatore Pisano, "a technical committee to provide a definitive solution to this problem. We understand that the intervention is limited and temporary, but we've done it nonetheless to provide breathing space for a sector that must not be penalized. Personally," he added, "I will truly pound the pavement at all institutional levels, including, if necessary, at the Ministry of Infrastructure in Rome, to ensure that the Pisan nautical industry, a world-class industry, is supported in its rights."
