Launching a new Higher Technical Institute in Livorno dedicated to logistics and transport, a sector that has acquired an increasingly important role in recent years, especially following the pandemic crisis. This is the goal the Port System Authority of Livorno is working towards. Mar Northern Tyrrhenian Sea in collaboration with the Italian Super Yacht Life Foundation (Isyl) and the Maremma and Tyrrhenian Chamber of Commerce.

According to the Livorno Port Authority, the focus of the working group was "sharing a strategy that will allow the region to seize the opportunities arising from the presence in Livorno of one of the most important ports in the country, an integral part of a logistics system that, together with Piombino and the ports of Elba, directly employs 9.735 people and provides direct added value of €887 million."

The project, which will be formalized in the coming days, was presented at the Port System Authority headquarters during a meeting attended by the initiative's participating entities (in addition to the Port System Authority, the Chamber of Commerce and the Isyl Foundation), port operators, and industry representatives, such as Spedimar, Asamar, and Confindustria. Representatives from the Tuscany Region, the Maritime Directorate, the Territorial School Office, and the Vespucci Interporto were also present.

The proposal aims to fill the need for specialized technicians in the logistics sector in Livorno and Tuscany by offering highly professional training programs, developed in close collaboration with companies in the sector. The statement specifies that the support of the Isyl Foundation is essential due to the expertise this Higher Technical Institute has acquired in logistics related to the nautical sector, while the Chamber of Commerce plays an important role in liaising with the business community.

"The ITS represent a hotbed of essential skills for the logistics/port sector, which is currently experiencing a shortage of suitable professionals on the job market," explained Claudio Capuano, Head of Training at the Port Authority, during the meeting, which was also attended by Cristina Grieco, President of Indire.

"We are very enthusiastic about the path we have decided to undertake in collaboration with the Isyl Foundation, which will involve the entire logistics/port cluster, to better adapt the content of the ITS to the needs of the labor market," continued Capuano.

Vincenzo Poerio, president of the Isyl Foundation, was also pleased and expressed his willingness to begin a process of virtuous collaboration with the Port Authority through the implementation of projects that will train logistics personnel, with the companies themselves becoming an active and integral part of the project. "Our proven cooperation with the institutions, and in particular the valuable support and resources made available by the Tuscany Region, will allow us to reap all the benefits of training valuable resources for the logistics sector," he said.

Chamber of Commerce President Riccardo Breda described the initiative as a significant development opportunity for the area: "As the Chamber of Commerce, we will support the project in the most appropriate ways, in collaboration with the Port Authority and the Isyl Foundation, providing our know-how and experience in career and career guidance," he stated.

Finally, Cristina Grieco believes the Livorno ITS proposal represents a great opportunity for both graduates and businesses in the sector. "The network of institutions we represent at this meeting aims to be the best guarantee of the quality of the training offered, meeting the needs of the local area," she concluded.
