Wider is ready to open its first production area at its new shipyard in Fano.
The 18.000 m2 seafront area, located between the old port and the tourist port of the Marche city, will be operational and will be able to accommodate the production of the first hull as early as next February.

Less than a year after announcing plans to build a new shipyard in Fano, Wider today announced that work on this high-tech facility is progressing rapidly, with the aim of opening a first production area as early as early 2023. "With the heavy foundation work almost completed, the 18.000 square meter waterfront area, located between Fano's old port and its tourist port, is expected to be operational and able to accommodate the production of the first hull as early as next February," reads a statement from the company, which this year presented the new WiderCat 92 (the Marche-based shipyard's first catamaran) and began construction of the Moonflower 72 superyacht (both equipped with Wider's innovative serial hybrid propulsion system).
"The new shipyard will be a true innovation center," says Marcello Maggi, head of W-Fin Sarl, the holding company that owns 100% of Wider's capital. "This is where all our boats of the future will come to life, along with new green technologies and new ideas from startups, fully respecting environmental issues. In other words, a center of excellence not only for the city of Fano, but also for the Italian nautical industry."
Located on the Fano waterfront, the new shipyard will embody and fuel Wider's vision of a sustainable nautical world. The first project to be assembled at the new facility, which includes 350 linear meters of dock and a travel lift, will be the WiderCat 92, the first model in a series of power catamarans designed by Luca Dini and the Wider Design Center. Equipped with the Wider Serial Hybrid System, five units of this model have already been sold.
"Marcello Maggi wanted the investment to have a positive impact on the local economy and for the project to be conceived and developed by a local professional capable of architecturally interpreting the brand's philosophy. Thus, the choice fell on the distinctly contemporary style of architects Alessandro Massari and Mauro Cavicchi of the Massari Design Architecture Studio, based in Fano," the company explains.
Massari himself states: "The brief I received from Wider was to create a structure based on sustainable principles, with a striking design, capable of also providing the kind of functional efficiency associated with modern nautical construction processes. It's never easy to design something that is both beautiful and industrially practical. My studio is located a few hundred meters from the site of Wider's new shipyard, so for me, as for the other residents of the city, it was very important that the building be not only attractive and pleasing to the eye, but also integrated with its surroundings."
Standing 14 meters tall, the building's profile is broken up by large glass surfaces, allowing office staff and production workers to enjoy abundant natural light. The exterior wall facing the sea features a stylized silhouette of a Wider yacht that appears to float in the marina. Materials, components, and finished yachts can be easily moved in and out of the warehouse through four large doors on each of the building's two east- and west-facing sides.
The building's roof will be covered with solar panels, and the structure is expected to be virtually self-sufficient thanks to solar energy. The final cladding materials that will break up the building's profile are still being selected, but the slats covering the exterior walls will be made of a 100% recyclable composite of bamboo fiber and plastic (Wood Plastic Composite Bamboo), resistant to humidity and UV rays and which will not warp or fade over time.
