The world's largest yacht carrier has embarked 23 pleasure craft bound for Fort Lauderdale.
Genoa - The Port of Genoa has welcomed the Yacht Servant, the world's largest self-sinking vessel for yacht transport, to its IMT Terminal. Beginning this October, the flagship of the Spliethoff Group's DYT Yacht Transport group, with Multimarine Services (Finsea) as its shipping agency, will operate a regular scheduled service between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Four calls are planned this fall for the transport of yachts from Europe to Central America, and four more in the spring for the reverse route.
With an overall length of 213,7 meters, a beam of 46 meters, and a draft of 4,6 meters, Yacht Servant offers double the capacity of previous models of these vessels and is 32% more fuel efficient. Her deck space, at 6.380 square meters, is 30% larger than that of her "little sister" Yacht Express, making it easier to transport multiple vessels per voyage and also accommodate deep-draft sailing yachts.
Representing Dyt Yacht Transport were Benedetta Granello di Casaleto, Gabriele Consiglieri, and general manager Laura Tempest. The first voyage from the port of Genoa will have a two-week transit time to the port of Fort Lauderdale, where some of the transported superyachts (23 in total) will be on display at the upcoming boat show.
Genoa, home to major marinas capable of accommodating and providing extensive services to maxi-yachts, has always been the Mediterranean port of reference for this line, assisted throughout the region by the maritime agency Multimarine Services, part of the Finsea Group.
A longtime customer of the only public dock in the Port of Genoa, Dyt was forced to find another berth capable of accommodating its self-sinking vessels after the recent collapse of the Pra' seawall. The agreement was reached with the Messina Group's IMT Terminal after a lengthy and critical process to verify all necessary safety conditions.
Transoceanic yacht transport completes Genoa's offerings in the large-scale yachting industry, a sector in which Italy has long held the world lead in terms of production output, with significant employment and economic benefits for the country. It is no coincidence that representatives (Alberto Amico, Fabio Pesto, and Giovanni Costaguta) from the Genova For Yachting association were in large attendance at the ceremony marking the first call. Demonstrating the high demand for yacht transport by ship from Italy, in the port of Genoa, at the same time the Yacht Servant sank and resurfaced with 23 pleasure boats aboard (the longest measuring 50 meters), two other vessels were simultaneously loading pleasure craft via lo-lo cranes.
