Genoa will be able to host the largest yacht carrier in the world.
Following successful safety simulations, the Yacht Servant will dock at the IMT Terminal in Sampierdarena on October 4th.
Despite the fears of recent months Thanks to the efforts of the shipping company Dyt Super Yacht Transport, its agent Finsea, the local Port Authority, and technical-nautical services, the world's largest semi-sinking yacht transport vessel has found a constant and safe mooring in Genoa. The Yacht Servant will dock for the first time at the Messina Group's IMT Terminal on October 4th, and this debut will be celebrated with a dockside ceremony. Attending will be Richard Klabbers, managing director of Dyt; Laura Tempest, general manager of Dyt; Ignazio Messina, CEO of Ignazio Messina & C.; and Aldo Negri, CEO of the Finsea Group. Also in attendance will almost certainly be Paolo Emilio Signorini, president of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority; the mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci; and Giovanni Toti, president of the Liguria Region.
The vessel in question, delivered just a few months ago from the Chinese shipyard Yantai CIMC Raffles, will be tasked in the coming weeks with transporting several pleasure craft from the Mediterranean to Central America. Their owners have requested access to the Caribbean for the winter season, for example. If Genoa had not found a solution to accommodate this vessel, the alternative would have been a French port or, more likely, Palma de Mallorca. The critical issues were the yacht Servant's beam and draft, as her dimensions (214,17 meters long, 46 meters wide, with a draft of 4,6 meters and over 6.300 square meters of deck space for embarking and transporting pleasure craft) required ad hoc maneuvering simulations to avoid the risk of accidents.
Before finding the final location, several docking options were considered, both at Genoa Sampierdarena and Genoa Pra', with the final choice being the IMT Terminal, located at the end of the Sampierdarena canal. The Yacht Servant, at 46 meters wide, is considered by the Port Authority to be an "oversized" vessel, and therefore a special order was required for its entry into Sampierdarena. This authorization was now granted following precise calculations and specific simulations conducted at the IMAT Academy in Castelvolturno (Caserta), which were successful.
