Amico & Co. requests an extension of the concession until 2065
The refit shipyard based in the port of Genoa invested over 72 million euros between 1999 and 2021, reaching the current 84 employees.

The request dates back to last March, but only today, with the publication by the Port System Authority of Genoa, have the 30-day deadline for submitting observations or competing proposals begun, a necessary step for the continuation of the process with which the Amico & Co shipyard, specialized in the refit of ships and pleasure boats, intends to establish itself in the port of the Ligurian capital until 2065.
The company, in addition to managing the Darsena Nautica (until 2039), conducts its core business (repair, renovation, and maintenance of yachts between 15 and 150 meters in length) on spaces granted under two different titles, one expiring at the end of 2029 (net of the two-year extension resulting from anti-Covid regulations) and the other at the end of 2040 (plus an additional year to be added for the reasons mentioned above).
According to the application, the licenses were issued to Amico & Co. in exchange for a €10,3 million investment plan. The shipyard, however, claims to have invested over €72,3 million between 1999 (the year of the initial approval) and 2021, from the construction of a covered dry dock to yard consolidation works, from the creation of a haulage and land-based system that allows five vessels up to 95 meters in length to be simultaneously worked on land, to the strengthening and improvement of the warehouses.
It is due to the payback period for these investments and the short-term investments totaling over €4,3 million (see the table below: the December 2022 deadline dates back to March of this year and will presumably need to be extended due to the work yet to begin) that Amico & Co is requesting, in addition to consolidating the securities for simplicity, to extend their expiration date to 2065. The request is also supported by the results achieved in terms of turnover (over €55 million in 2021), direct employment (from 31 to 84 employees in the last 15 years), and the creation of related industries (estimated by the company to include a supply chain of 36 companies employing over 500 people).
