Cutolo: "Why doesn't the legislator also encourage yacht refitting?"
The number one of Hydro Tec also calls for stimulus measures for the nautical sector as is done for the automotive and construction sectors
Genoa - Sergio Cutolo makes an "ethical and philosophical" point about it and asks why the public in Italy and Europe doesn't encourage the superyacht refit industry as it does other sectors of activity.
Speaking at the two-day event underway at the Marina Genova as part of the SeaYou event, the president of Hydro Tec, discussing refitting and sustainability, said: "In the automotive industry, legislators are incentivizing sales and fleet renewal. The same is happening in the construction industry, with a strong push toward building renovations and thus favoring projects that rebuild on top of existing structures. The same approach could be applied to yachting."
The expert naval engineer continued his reasoning by recalling that "shipyards are currently overflowing with orders, and raw material costs have reached unprecedented levels; refitting should be encouraged right now, given that there is a large fleet of vessels in the water and Italy has some major shipyards. It's an interesting discussion, and shipyards are increasingly interested in refits." According to Cutolo, "it could also be an interesting opportunity to shorten delivery times for boats, which currently extend until 2026 for custom yachts over 50 meters."
