Super yachts find space in the port of Cagliari
The agreement between the Port Authority and the Italian Navy provides for a redefinition of the spaces for recreational and military activities and will complete the reconversion process of the historic port.

The President of the Sardinian Sea Port Authority, Massimo Deiana, the representative of the Navy's Logistics Support Command in Cagliari, Domenico Usai, the Maritime Director, Mario Valente, and the Regional Director of the State Property Agency, Rita Soddu, have signed the memorandum of understanding redefining the use of the areas and docks of the capital's port. The Sardinian Port Authority announced the agreement, explaining that it represents a document in which the Navy commits to granting its authorization for the return to the Port Authority of a portion of the historic port, including the Garau dock (excluding part of its root, which will remain restricted for the security needs of the Logistics Support Command), the Harbour Master's Dock, and the entire Ichnusa dock. A large portion, the one that will fall under the ownership of the Port Authority, equal to over 4 thousand square meters of open space, approximately 9,500 of water surfaces and almost 450 linear meters of mooring.
Conversely, the Port Authority will deliver to the Navy the port areas, along with an equal number of mooring points, located on the west side and at the head of the Sabaudo Pier. These will be used to service the Navy's naval units assigned to the Cagliari headquarters. In this case, the spaces delivered will amount to 21 square meters of open space and 19 square meters of water, for a total of 665 square meters.
linear meters of mooring.
These steps will become effective upon completion of construction work on the new Ro-Ro Terminal in the Western Outer Port of Cagliari's Canal Port and the consequent transfer of all commercial traffic from the Historic Port, as envisaged in the Port Master Plan.
Effective immediately, the agreement provides for the return to the Port Authority of the Navy complex located in the Su Siccu area, near the Magazzini del Sale park (known as Parco Nervi), and the simultaneous transfer of the Logistics Support Command's equipment to a warehouse on the Molo Sabaudo dock currently occupied by the Superintendency's underwater archaeological finds, which will, in turn, be moved to the more usable former Guardia di Finanza building in Su Siccu.
With these necessary adjustments, the entire Cagliari waterfront will be permanently dedicated to tourist and recreational activities, capable of accommodating even maxi yachts, in a large, modern marina strategically located for the city's economy.
"The recently signed memorandum of understanding completes the administrative process of the complex redefinition of the spaces and functions of the historic port of Cagliari," explains Massimo Deiana, President of the Port Authority of the Sardinian Sea. "This agreement, thanks to the valuable and effective collaboration with the Cagliari Logistics Support Command, will allow us, once the work on the Porto Canale Ro-Ro Terminal and the resulting shift in commercial traffic is completed, to ensure a more orderly presence of the Navy in the area, while also allowing for the development of recreational boating, with the related services that will be housed in the old maritime station, and the cruise market."
