2021 was a record year for superyacht sales: Sanlorenzo and Benetti top the list.
In the last twelve months, 723 sales transactions were completed worldwide.

Last year marked a record number of luxury yachts sold: a record was reached in terms of the number of superyachts changing hands since data was collected by some of the most important databases in the sector.
More precisely, according to data from BOAT Pro, 723 superyacht sales were completed in 2021, a 71,7% increase compared to the 421 transactions in 2020, which itself was a record year. The pandemic emergency also fueled the market, fueling demand for private boats and small-group cruises from a particularly affluent clientele.
Motor yachts (with 684 vessels) were the most frequently subject to changes of ownership, while 39 large sailing boats were sold in 2021, a number which also increased significantly compared to the 27 in 2020 but just below the 42 in 2019.
The average asking price for superyachts was also 10,4 million euros, a figure that is growing significantly, although the sales of the enormous vessel Octopus (126,1 metres) built by the Lürssen shipyard (asking price 235 million euros) and the 86-metre Man of Steel by Oceanco (131 million euros) are driving this statistic upwards.
The average length of extra-large vessels sold in 2021 was 36 meters, with a gross tonnage of 331 tons and an age of 12,5 years.
In quantitative terms, 47 transactions involved superyachts from the Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo, 40 from Sunseeker and 37 from another Italian group, Benetti. The Italian shipyard therefore dominated the sale & purchase market with 287 sales overall, ahead of the United States (130) and the Netherlands (84).
